A Franklin Township man was sentenced Friday to six years in a treatment center after pleading guilty to fondling a 9-year-old girl.
Robert E. Whirlow, 48, had pleaded guilty to fondling the daughter of a family friend. He was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Walter L. Marshall Jr. to serve the six years at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center, a facility for sex offenders in Avenel, Middlesex County.
Marshall ordered confinement after an examination at the center concluded Whirlow was a "repetitive and compulsive" sex offender and would be appropriate for treatment, officials said.
