Penn Charter's Worley picks West Virginia

DARYL WORLEY'S next stop will be West Virginia. Now, as for what position he'll play ... Up for serious debate! 

Worley, a 6-2 1/2, 185-pound rising football senior at Penn Charter, has chosen the Mountaineers, ultimately, over Pitt and Syracuse (he had roughly 15 offers) and next summer he'll try to nail down his role.

"They told me it'll be my choice,'' Worley said. “On defense it could be free safety, strong safety or ‘star' linebacker, or on offense it could be slot receiver or wideout ... Oh, they did say I'll be returning kicks no matter what. Which kind? I didn't really ask.

“Last season, I was more focused on receiver, but ever since I've been putting more time into d-back things, especially the footwork. Once I get started down there, I'll ask their opinion in terms of which position would be best.''

Worley's first contact from West Virginia came in late winter, when assistant Jake Spavital visited PC.

“We had a great conversation,'' Worley said. “People could tell right away, we were just connecting on another level.

“I like the fact that West Virginia's moving to the Big 12. There's going to be great exposure and competition. I took an unofficial visit this past weekend and I loved everything about it. The people, especially. As soon as I got introduced to each person, it was like he was family."

Worley, who lives near Broad and Erie, plans to major in athletic training.
