Additional charges in Mount Holly hit-and-run

A Hainesport man facing trial for the May drunken-driving death of a 16-year-old Rancocas Valley Regional High School student was hit today with additional charges of death by auto and possession of marijuana.

Kevin Voorhees, 52, of the 2600 block of Creek Road, had earlier been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, possessing a controlled dangerous substance, driving under the influence, and refusing to submit to testing.

He was free on $100,000 bail but surrendered today at the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office. After hearing the new charges, Voorhees posted a consolidated bail of $150,000 and was released.

Voorhees was driving a Honda SUV southbound on the Mount Holly Bypass on May 25 when he struck Charbinau "Shawn" Hall of Mount Holly, then fled the scene, authorities said. Hall had been walking on the shoulder of the bypass near Rancocas Road and was killed on impact.

Witnesses immediately contacted police and provided Voorhees' license plate number, authorities said. He was soon stopped and taken into custody by the Mount Laurel Police Department.

The charge of death by auto was added for striking and killing Hall, authorities said. The marijuana possession complaint was added after toxicology tests showed that Voorhees had cocaine, marijuana, and alcohol in his system at the time of the accident.
