Sports in Brief: Mayweather is released from jail

LOCAL BASEBALL: Spring City defeated Milton, 11-0, in the Pennsylvania American Legion tournament on Friday and advanced to the championship game against Doylestown. Both teams have already advanced to next week's Mid-Atlantic tournament in West Lawn.

SOCCER: Manchester United said Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard signed a four-year contract extension at the club through till the 2015-16 season.

Chelsea captain John Terry denied the English Football Association charge of racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand during a match last year.

COLLEGES: New South Carolina baseball coach Chad Holbrook was given a five-year contract paying him $400,000 a season. Holbrook's new contract also includes several bonuses, like $15,000 for a regular-season Southeastern Conference title, $15,000 for an NCAA tournament appearance as a regional host and $50,000 for a national title. Holbrook also gets a bonus if his players get good grades.

AUTO RACING: Jeff Gordon is NASCAR's charitable champion. The four-time Cup champion was honored as the seventh recipient of the Heisman Humanitarian Award.

The Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation has raised more than $11 million for children's charities through the years.

MISCELLANEOUS:Nick Valvano is stepping down after 13 years as CEO of the V Foundation for Cancer Research, and the group has selected Susan Braun as his replacement.

The V Foundation says it has awarded more than $120 million for cancer research grants, including $14.4 million last year. It was founded in 1993 by ESPN and Jim Valvano before he died of cancer later that year.

JURISPRUDENCE: Cycling's international governing body is trying to block the case American anti-doping officials filed against Lance Armstrong.
