Moore scored 10 points as team Philadelphia fell to team DC 102-94. He was the Owls' leading scorer in his senior season, averaging 17.3 points per game and shooting 38.4 percent from 3-point range.
"It's just great together with these guys, some of my old teammates and Big 5 rivals. I was born and raised here and went to college here, so going to Italy is my first time playing basketball outside of Philadelphia. So to represent Philadelphia in my last game in the US before I leave is such a great opportunity," Moore said. "I'm kind of excited and nervous at the same time to go overseas because I don't know what to expect. But Italy is a great place to be and I'm excited to start my career there."
By spending time overseas, Moore hopes to follow in the footsteps of his former Temple teammate, Dionte Christmas. After going undrafted in 2009, Christmas played internationally in Israel, the Czech Republic and Greece to polish his game. His hard work paid off, earning him a stint in the Orlando Summer League and eventually his first NBA contract with the Boston Celtics.
"I was telling Ramone today it's going to be hard over there your first year. It's easy to give up, there's a lot of guys that go over there and couldn't cut it, but I think going overseas is a great way to get you ready for the NBA," Christmas said. "I told Ramone to just go over there and keep working hard and stay motivated. He has a great drive and I think he knows what it takes to get there. When Boston called me they told me they watched me in Europe throughout the year, so I think that's what got my foot in the door. Maybe it can be the same for him too."
Moore and Christmas reunited as teammates on team Philadelphia for The-BALL showcase. Christmas was team Philadelphia's leading scorer with 14 points. Other notable participants for team Philadelphia were former Villanova forward Curtis Sumpter and former St. Joseph's guard Pat Carroll.
Former Hawk and Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson was on hand to take in the action, presenting the referees with the official game ball before the contest tipped off. Cleveland Cavaliers first-round draft pick and Philadelphia native Dion Waiters was in attendance as well.
Though The-BALL showcase only spanned two games in 2012, it is intended to expand into an eight-team league in the summer of 2013. The showcase utilizes some creative interpretations on the rules of basketball, including a 4-point line 25 feet from the basket, only one free throw worth two points per foul and special rules regarding the bonus to prevent late-game fouling.
