Rashawn, 15, loves attention. Playful and affectionate, he delights in being hugged and read to. When spoken to, he becomes quiet, smiles, or laughs. Rashawn likes to move and happily leaves his wheelchair to scoot and crawl short distances on the floor.
Diagnosed as multiply disabled, Rashawn can recognize and respond to voice and touch. Although he is working on speech, he uses body language to communicate, such as reaching toward a toy or someone he likes. As a Boy Scout, he participated in making a car for a race derby and was very proud of himself. Rashawn currently lives in a long-term-care hospital pediatric unit and benefits from physical and occupational therapies. His favorite activities are spending time in the pool and pet therapy. He also enjoys cartoons, especially those about superheroes.
