New Villanova assistant resigns

Newly hired assistant coach Doug Martin has resigned from the Villanova basketball team because of inaccuracies on his resume, the school announced Saturday.

Martin had been hired as associate coach by Villanova head coach Jay Wright on Monday. Martin had been coaching at Paul VI High School in Virginia, and also had coached in the Continental Basketball Association.

Villanova announced Martin's hiring in a statement Monday. The statement said he had played basketball at Wisconsin-Green Bay from 1991-95.

However, the history link of Wisconsin-Green Bay's basketball website does not show a Doug Martin on its all-time roster. Andrew Gavin, the school's director of athletic communications, said in an e-mail that he had "not found any records of a Doug Martin playing at Green Bay."
