A crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer closed the eastbound lanes of I-76 in South Philadelphia for nearly 4 1/2 hours today.

The tractor-trailer overturned in the crash near the Philadelphia Housing Authority building on Vare Avenue.

The driver of the car was transported to an area hospital in stable condition with unspecified injuries, a Fire Department spokesman said.

No eastbound traffic was allowed beyond South Street during the closure.

The crash was reported just before 9 a.m. and the roadway reopened around 1:20 p.m.
