The Kristen Stewart- Robert Pattinson media frenzy (she kissed another dude) has Jodie Foster up in arms about the abuses of the media.

"We've all seen the headlines at the checkout counter," Foster, 49, writes in a Daily Beast essay. "But we seldom consider the childhoods we unknowingly destroy in the process." Foster, who played mom to an 11-year-old K-Stew in David Fincher's Panic Room, is deeply fond of the youngun, referring to her as having "beautiful talent and fearlessness."

Foster was embroiled in a media storm in 1981, when her stalker, John Hinckley Jr., who was obsessed with her role as a 12-year-old prostitute in Taxi Driver, shot President Ronald Reagan as a tribute to her.

Fame isn't worth the cost anymore, she says.

"I would quit before I started," she says. "If I had to grow up in this media culture, I don't think I could survive it emotionally. I would only hope that someone who loved me . . . would . . . lead me away to safety."
