Union trade Lionard Pajoy to D.C. United for midfielder Danny Cruz

The Union acquired midfielder Danny Cruz on Thursday from D.C. United for forward Lionard Pajoy.

The newcomer won't need an extensive scouting report for his first game with his new team; the Union travel to RFK Stadium in Washington on Sunday to take on United.

Acquired by United in January from the Houston Dynamo, the 22-year-old Cruz started 12 of 16 games this season for D.C., notching one goal and three assists. He is a former member of the under-17 national team coached by John Hackworth, the Union's interim team manager.

The 31-year-old Pajoy had five goals and two assists while making 16 starts and appearing in 20 games in his first season with the Union.

Hackworth has great admiration for Pajoy.

"He's been a fantastic professional, but this opportunity to bring in a player of Danny's quality, was one that we simply couldn't pass up," Hackworth said in an e-mail. "He is a young and very healthy player with a lot of youth national team experience, and he will fit into our style very well."
