Sideshow: Rihanna was worried for Brown

Posted: August 19, 2012

In a much-touted chat with Oprah, Barbadian beauty Rihanna speaks at length about her 2009 assault at the hands of former bf Chris Brown. "Everything I knew switched in a night, and I couldn't control that," Rihanna says in the interview, set to air Sunday night on OWN.

"It was a weird, confusing space to be in because as angry as I was - angry, hurt, and betrayed," she says. Rihanna says she was concerned Brown would be demonized rather than receive the help he needed to deal with his anger.

"I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help, and who's going to help him?" she says. "Nobody's going to say he needs help - everybody's going to say he's a monster, without looking at the source ... and I was more concerned about him."

Thomas Haden Church saves life

Thomas Haden Church has saved a life. TMZ says the Wings regular and Sideways costar was having lunch Thursday at Soho House in Los Angeles when a man at the next table began choking, interrupting everyone's fun. "We're told Church sprung into action, administered the Heimlich Maneuver and saved the guy's life," TMZ says. "The Soho House comped his meal." Result!

Prince William saves several lives

Church's good deed pales in comparison with the very British (understated, prim, proper) heroism Prince William displayed the same evening when Flight Lt. Wales (as William is known in uniform) used his Sea King helicopter to rescue two sisters - a 16- and a 13-year-old - from drowning off the Welsh coast near the future monarch's RAF base in Anglesey. The girls were cold and frightened but otherwise in pristine condition.

Dance the pain away . . .

The key to happiness, to a clean, healthy, hygienic soul has been identified. "I feel sexiest when I'm dancing," Jennifer Lopez tells InStyle. "When I'm exercising and taking good care of myself - that's when I'm at my best."

Marc Anthony's ex shook it up something fierce Thursday night at an L.A. show, says USAToday.com, dolled up in a really fluffy-furry-feathery white skirt and matching hat.

"I'm a dancer, so dance and choreography have always been a way to express myself," J-Lo says. "Anything you do with music or a song, or even playing a character, is a way of expressing yourself. Dance just happens to be a very sensual way of doing it." J-Lo says her recent heartbreak hasn't soured her on amour.

"The hard part is that you never stop believing in love. You never stop," she says. "But that's also the best part."

Tidbits 'n' pieces

Comic actor and former Playmate Jenny McCarthy is on the market again: She and Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher are kaput. "Brian and I have decided to turn our romance into an amazing friendship," she said Friday. "I will continue to be the biggest cheerleader for him." . . . Former hard-core porn superstar Jenna Jameson has been found guilty of DUI when she struck a light pole in Southern California. She's been given three years of informal probation and ordered to pay $340 in fines and participate in a Mothers Against Drunk Driving "victims' impact panel." . . . Mayim Bialik, 36, says the injuries she sustained Wednesday when three Chilean tourists caused her to crash her car won't keep her from shooting her beloved show, The Big Bang Theory.
