A happy, playful 5-year-old who needs caring support

Posted: August 21, 2012

Harold is a happy, playful, and affectionate 5-year-old who will greet you with a smile. He loves cartoons and is great at entertaining himself. Full of energy, he has difficulty sitting and focusing on a specific activity. Harold's communication skills are emerging and he is learning to express his wants and needs more effectively. He does best when an activity is presented in a fun way and in a small group setting. Harold benefits from the occupational, physical, and speech therapy he receives at school. He is also gaining more control over his emotions.

Harold has been diagnosed with autism. The ideal family for him will be supportive of his special developmental and medical needs and will provide a consistent routine for him. He and his sister, Kiara (to be profiled next week), get along well and hope to be adopted together.

They would do best in a home where they are the only children so they can receive abundant individual attention and unconditional love. They are close to an older brother, who has been adopted, and the contact should be maintained. The siblings are eligible for financial subsidy.

These and other children are available for adoption by approved applicants. For a free information packet, contact the National Adoption Center, 1500 Walnut St., Suite 701, Philadelphia 19102. Call 215-735-9988, or visit the website at www.adopt.org
