Smash-and-grabbers steal watches at King of Prussia Mall

Posted: August 24, 2012

Investigators in Upper Merion Township are seeking three men who stole $477,000 worth of watches Wednesday in a "smash and grab" at the King of Prussia Plaza.

Police Sgt. Jeff Maurer said officers were called at 2:47 p.m. to Tourneau Inc., a luxury watch store at 160 N. Gulph Rd., King of Prussia.

Detectives said the three entered the store and threatened the security guard with a small sledgehammer. The first man smashed the glass display cases with the hammer, allowing the other two to grab the watches, Maurer said.

The heist lasted less than 20 seconds before the robbers fled the store, Maurer said. They were described by witnesses as black men wearing masks and clothing intended to mask their identity.

No one was injured, Maurer said. Anyone with information may contact Upper Merion police at 610-265-3232.    - Bonnie L. Cook
