Vols' Rogers suspended indefinitely

TENNESSEE'S Da'Rick Rogers, an all-SEC receiver last year, was suspended indefinitely Thursday for a violation of team rules. Coach Derek Dooley said he doesn't expect Rogers to rejoin the team this season. Rogers had 67 catches for 1,040 yards and nine touchdowns last season.

In other college football news:

* Tyrann Mathieu's father says the former LSU star will not play this season. Tyrone Mathieu tells ESPN his son is focused on working out his personal problems with John Lucas at the Right Step recovery center in Houston. Tyrann Mathieu was kicked off the team at LSU 2 weeks ago, reportedly for failed drug tests, and considered transferring.

* Mississippi State says it is working with the NCAA because of a "potential recruiting irregularity" in the football program. Receivers coach Angelo Mirando resigned his position on Sunday, citing "unforeseen personal issues." It is unclear if Mirando's departure had anything to do with the current investigation.

* Ball State linebacker Jonathan Newsome was suspended for the first two games of the season. It was reported that Newsome was arrested Monday after a bag containing marijuana was allegedly found in his wallet.

* Ohio State linebacker Storm Klein, kicked off the team when he was charged with domestic violence, has been reinstated by coach Urban Meyer after pleading guilty to a lesser charge earlier this week. Klein, a senior who started 10 games last year, will not be allowed to play until at least the third game. Klein was involved in an altercation with the mother of their child in July. He was charged with hitting his former girlfriend during an argument at his apartment.
