THE BEST game Khalid Lewis played in his first season at Delaware was on Dec. 19, 2011, against La Salle. He scored a season-high 18 points as UD won, 70-66.
Lewis shot 5-for-6, 2-for-2 from three and 6-for-8 from the foul line. Lewis, who started all 32 games for Delaware at point guard, scored in double figures just three more times, averaging 5.2 points and 2.6 assists on 37.7 percent shooting, 24.4 percent from the arc.
Obviously, that La Salle game made a lasting impression on the coaches of the losing team. Lewis, from Trenton Catholic Academy, has transferred to La Salle and, after sitting out this season, will be able to play in 2013-14 with three seasons of eligibility.
