Danny Garcia shows some pop ahead of rematch with Erik Morales

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - With his own dad to his right side at Thursday's press conference, Danny Garcia looked to his left and questioned the relationship between Erik Morales and his father.

Garcia, a native of Juniata Park, will meet Morales on Oct. 20 in a rematch of their March match, which Garcia won by decision.

Undefeated in 24 bouts, the recently crowned world champion listened as Jose Morales, who trains his son Erik, explained why his son was unable to make weight before losing to Garcia in March. The former champ weighed two pounds over 140-pound limit and was stripped of his belt before the match. Jose Morales said his son was battling health issues and was still recovering from gall bladder surgery two months prior to the fight. Garcia simply took advantage of the circumstances, the elder Morales said.

"If I had a surgery, personally I know my father wouldn't let me fight," said Garcia, who is trained by his father Angel. "So why would Eric Morales' father let him fight after he had surgery. Does he know his son can be killed in the ring."

The two will meet for Garcia's super lightweight championship at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn's first world title match since 1931 when Maxie Rosenbloom decisioned Jimmy Slattery on Aug. 5, 1931 at Ebbets Field for the light heavyweight championship.

After each win, Garcia said he hears a new excuse from his opponent. After knocking out Amir Khan in July, Garcia heard it was simply a lucky punch.

"I guess because I'm one of the new faces of boxing, they just can't believe that I took over," Garcia said at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge.

The 36-year-old Morales (52-8, 36 KOs) is a future boxing hall of famer and had won four of his last five fights before being outpointed by Garcia. Garcia said he fought less aggressively in their first match as he held too much respect for Morales.

"[I have to] use more power, use more speed," said Garcia. "Do the same thing but just be stronger, better and faster."
