POOR CHAD JOHNSON. Earlier this month he was cut by the Miami Dolphins. And on Thursday, he found out he'd been cut by Madden 13 too.

"That awkward moment when you realize you're not on Madden13 and have to create yourself . . . " Johnson tweeted to his followers.

Actually, the athlete formerly known as Chad Ochocinco is part of Madden 13. He has just been moved to the free-agent pool.

In a somewhat related story, the Dolphins seem hell-bent on signing a receiver familiar with the arrest process.

Miami released Johnson after he was charged with domestic violence after allegedly headbutting his wife. The Dolphins had signed him in June to replace Brandon Marshall, a talented player with a long list of off-field incidents. They traded Marshall to the Bears in March just days after he was accused of hitting a woman in a New York club. Marshall was not charged in that incident.

Then came Thursday when the Dolphins gave Donte Stallworth a tryout.

Stallworth, you'll remember, is a former Eagle who spent 24 days in jail after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter. He was driving a car that hit and killed a 53-year-old pedestrian in 2009.

Note to Miami: If Stallworth doesn't work out, there's always Plaxico Burress.

Owner a Tebow fan

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson wasn't in attendance when the Eagles beat his team in preseason action Thursday night.

Instead, he was in Tampa, Fla., at the Republican National Convention acting a delegate for Mitt Romney.

Asked if he thought Tebow - who did not play against the Eagles - was part of the reason the Jets hadn't scored a touchdown in their first three preseason games, Johnson said: "I think you can never have too much Tebow."

Date to remember

On Aug. 31, 1979, the Phillies - then two games under .500 - replaced manager Danny Ozark with Dallas Green. The following season, they won their first of two World Series.
