Charge now manslaughter in death before Buffett concert

Posted: September 05, 2012

A Westville man accused of punching an acquaintance at a Jimmy Buffett concert last week now faces an aggravated-manslaughter charge.

A Superior Court judge on Tuesday also raised the bail of Matthew Shields, 21, to $400,000 after Ryan Coyle, 20, of Bellmawr, died of his injuries. Shields had been charged with aggravated assault.

Authorities said Shields hit Coyle when he was not looking, causing Coyle to fall and strike his head on pavement before Tuesday's concert at the Susquehanna Center in Camden.

Coyle died Friday at Cooper University Hospital. He was a graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School, where he played on the state-championship baseball team.
