Woman, 2 grandchildren injured in North Philadelphia fire

An woman and her two grandchildren were seriously injured in a fire today in North Philadelphia.

Medics reported that the children suffered burns in the fire in a three-story building on the 1900 block of Susquehanna Avenue. The children were taken to St. Christopher's Hospital.

Relatives identified them as sisters Myana Willis, 8, and Aliana Willis, 1.

A woman who suffered smoke inhalation was transported as a trauma alert to Temple University Hospital, medics said. Relatives identified her as Janet Willis, 56, the children's grandmother.

The fire was reported just before 9 a.m. and declared under control at 9:24 a.m.

The blaze apparently started on the second floor where the victims live and spread to the third floor before firefighters knocked it down. The cause is under investigation.

The Red Cross said it was assisting a family of five, including three children, displaced by the fire.
