3 La Salle players earn soccer honors

The La Salle men's soccer team sits atop the Philadelphia Soccer Six after the first 10 days of action, having gone 3-0-0, including a victory over Drexel.

With their fast start, the Explorers have swept the weekly awards for the city soccer association. Jason Plumhoff earned player of the week, goalkeeper John McCarthy (Northeast Catholic) was the top defender and midfielder Joe Farrell (Wissahickon) was selected as top rookie.

Richard Stockton goalkeeper Sarah Hinkle (Paul VI) was named NJAC women's defensive player of the week. She stopped eight shots in a 2-1 win over Shenandoah and helped on a combined shutout against Elms to finish with a 0.60 goals-against average.

Georgian Court sophomore Kaitlyn Hartkopf (Cherry Hill East) was selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's player of the week for the period ending Sept. 3.

Felician's Macki Groves (Millville) was named the the league's rookie of the week. Chestnut Hill's Kaelyn Pizzaro (Eastern) earned honorable mention.

Field hockey. Lafayette sophomores Jenna Seybert and Jessica Deutsch were named Patriot League defensive player of the week and goalkeeper of the week, respectively.

Assisting on the game-winning goal with less than five minutes to play against James Madison, Seybert (Mount St. Joseph) helped Lafayette to a comeback win on Saturday.

Cross-country. Widener junior Michael Quinn (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named Middle Atlantic Conference men's cross-country athlete of the week.

Volleyball. Ursinus dropped its home opener to Widener, 3-0.

For Ursinus (3-2), middle blockers Anahi McIntyre (Cherry Hill West) and Kristin Hanratty (Cinnaminson) each had six kills. Setter Gina Powers (Strath Haven) had a team-high 17 assists.

Lafayette cocaptain Sarah Frohnapfel was named the Patriot League player of the week after a 4-0 effort, including a first-place finish in the Lafayette College Tournament.

Stockton's Shannon Clark (Ridley) was named NJAC rookie of the week. Clark led the Ospreys with 78 assists in four matches at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic including a career-high 26 helpers against Buffalo State as the Ospreys got off to a 3-1 start.
