S. Jersey Field Hockey Teams to Watch

Eastern. The Vikings are loaded as they pursue their 14th consecutive state Group 4 title. Sophomore Austyn Cuneo, The Inquirer Player of the Year who scored 69 goals in leading Eastern to a 27-0 record as a freshman, is back along with Carly Celkos (27 goals), Emma Johansson, Karlee Spirit (27 assists), and top defender Erin Hoag, among others.

Camden Catholic. The Irish return eight starters from a team that went 17-5, won the Central Jersey Group 2 title, and lost a 4-3 decision to West Essex in the state final. Leading the way will be junior Tara Vittese, who had 49 goals and 24 assists last season.

Bishop Eustace. The Crusaders will be led by senior goalie Alex Pecora, an Iowa recruit. Other top returners include midfielder Montana Fleming (15 goals, 12 assists), forward Kelly Quinn (29 goals), and defender Sarah Furey.

Shawnee. Maryland recruit Marissa Cutry, a top defender, and Sophia Miller and Elina Pereira are top returners for a team that went 17-4 last season.

Moorestown. The defending Central Jersey Group 3 champions will feature goalie Laya Mallela, forward Sarah Powell, and midfielder Mary Flick.

Rancocas Valley. Eleven starters are back from a 12-10 team, led by junior defender Paige Davis and senior forward Lexie Wood.

West Deptford. The Eagles should be led by seniors Amanda Hojnowski (23 goals), Sydney Ponto (11), and Rachel Krott (19).

Millville. Junior Corrine Etter scored 24 goals with 10 assists last season.

Schalick. The defending South Jersey Group 1 champions feature 25-goal scorer Jess Harrell.

Washington Township. The Minutemaids will be led by midfielder Devin Muracco, who collected 14 goals and nine assists last season.

Florence. The Flashes return most of their regulars from a 16-4 squad, led by senior Lexi Smith, who scored 52 goals last season and has 139 in her career.
