Fri. S.J. girls’ roundup: Basner boosts Pennsauken

 Michelle Basner picked up two goals Friday and sent Pennsauken to a 4-2 home win over Palmyra in its girls' soccer season opener, a nonleague game.

After Palmyra's Rachel VanArtsdalen scored two goals to tie the game in the first half, Basner scored in the 29th and 48th minutes to give Pennsauken a two-goal lead.

In other nonleague action, Cherry Hill West improved to 1-1 with a 2-0 win at home over Seneca. Amanda Foley and Sarah McGlinn scored in the first half, and Christiana Ogunsami made eight stops to earn the win.

Erica Bruno scored the game's only goal as Florence won on the road against New Egypt, 1-0.

Eleni Dendrinos scored twice in Clayton's 5-2 road win against Schalick.

Tri-County Conference. Alysha Fox scored two goals, including the winner, to give Gloucester a 2-1 victory over host Wildwood.

Cape-Atlantic League. Shelby Money made six stops and Vineland cruised to a 3-0 win over Egg Harbor Township on the road.

Field Hockey

Rachel Movina scored in the second round of strokes to give Cherry Hill West a 1-0 win at Moorestown Friends in a nonleague match.

Cherry Hill West's Katie Lass made six stops and Moorestown Friends' Nicole Hovatter had three saves.

Also in nonleague action, Julie Johnson's goal with five minutes remaining salvaged a 2-2 tie for Audubon against Haddon Township. Alison Guldin set up Johnson, who sent the tying goal to the top corner of the net.

Audubon goalie Stephanie Schorr had five saves and Haddon Township's Jillian Caputo had seven stops in the tie.

St. Joseph scored three times in the second half to beat visiting Hammonton, 3-1.

Mainland's three first-half goals proved to be enough in a 3-1 road win over Absegami.

Pitman's Megan Gipe scored in the 15th minute and the host held on for a 1-0 win over Pennsville. Beth Patrick picked up an assist and Annie Beato made 15 stops to earn the shutout.

Shyneice Vessels scored twice in the second half as host Paulsboro dropped Woodbury, 2-0. Raven Robinson posted the shutout for Paulsboro.
