A bomb threat prompted the evacuation of part of the Boeing Co. plant in Delaware County on Tuesday, according to company officials.

At about 7:30 a.m., the threat was received to the building that houses the Chinook helicopter production line, said Andrew Lee, company spokesman. It was located on the south side of the complex. Police and the FBI were alerted and the evacuation was ordered. About 10:30 a.m. approximately 500 first-shift workers were sent home, he said.

Operations were normal at the other parts of the plant, Lee said. The plant is located in Ridley Township and employees about 6,200 workers.

The investigation was concluded and the second shift reported for work on time, Lee said. - Mari A. Schaefer
