Wed. S.J. girls' roundup: Cherokee upends top-ranked Lenape

Caitlyn O'Brien gave Cherokee the only goal it needed Wednesday, as the Chiefs eked out a 1-0 victory over Lenape, The Inquirer's top-ranked South Jersey team, in an Olympic Conference girls' soccer match.

O'Brien, a senior, volleyed in a 35th-minute corner kick past Indians keeper Alicia Hampton, and junior Courtney Simpson stopped 10 Lenape shots to preserve the victory for fifth-ranked Cherokee.

Madison Tiernan scored twice and keeper Imani Taylor added 11 saves in propelling undefeated Eastern to a 3-0 shutout of Washington Township.

Paul VI, riding two goals by senior Catherine Fiore, pulled away in the second half to defeat Bishop Eustace, 4-1.

Timber Creek senior Jenny Mosley netted two goals in the Chargers' 3-1 win over visiting Winslow Township.

Tri-County Conference. Pennsville seniors Brielyn Hackett and Chelsea Abhau recorded hat tricks as the Eagles beat visiting Wildwood, 7-1.

Carla Mancini cobbled together a hat trick, her sister Maria added another goal, and Shannon Reardigan contributed two more to give Glassboro a 6-3 triumph over Cumberland.

Four Pitman players scored goals in a 5-0 win against Gloucester. Morgan Stanwood connected twice and had an assist in the home win.

Schalick senior Eleni Dendrinos headed in the lone goal as the Cougars beat Deptford, 1-0.

Colonial Conference. Haddon Township's Hannah Green scored in the first half, Sterling's Tori Shinkowitz got the equalizer in the second, and the teams played through two overtime periods before ending in a 1-1 draw.

Megan Sullivan knocked in her third, fourth, and fifth goals of the young season to lead West Deptford to a 7-0 rout of host Woodbury.

Burlington County League. New Egypt scored twice in the first half, then held on in the second as keeper Emma Bunce made 16 saves to defeat Delran, 2-1.

Field Hockey

Freshman Colleen McAninley and senior Devin Muraco each scored twice to lead Washington Township to a 6-0 shutout of Cherry Hill East.

Kalyn O'Brien completed Seneca's second-half road comeback, blasting in the late winner to beat Paul VI, 2-1.

Shawnee's Casey Eck put two goals on the board in her team's 3-0 victory over Lenape. Sophia Miller also scored, and Elina Pereira faced only two shots in the shutout.

Tri-County Conference. Gloucester, behind two Abbey Meyer goals, stayed undefeated in its 4-0 win over visiting Pitman.


Dropping only one set all day, Haddonfield breezed to a 5-0 rout of Moorestown. Taylor Ng set the tone early for the Bulldogs, rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 victory in her first singles match.

Triton received a doubles win from the duo of Alexandra Russick and Grace Laubenstein in the final match to beat Delsea, 3-2.

Paul VI's Kaitlin McCaffrey did not lose a game in first singles, but Winslow Township surged to a 4-1 victory over the Eagles.

Offsetting a loss at first singles, Michele Arechavala and Nicole Rosada dominated their singles matches to lead Audubon to a 3-2 win against Haddon Township.
