Pa. Boys: Strath Haven holds off Springfield (D) in soccer, 2-1

Strath Haven took a two-goal lead midway through the second half and held on to knock off host Springfield (Delco), 2-1, Thursday in a Central League boys' soccer game.

Dan Goldfield put the Panthers on the board with a 25-yard strike to the upper right corner of the net in the first half. Senior captain Ben Soffer increased the lead to two 15 minutes into the second half.

In other Central League action, Harriton pushed its shutout streak to four with a 5-0 win over visiting Penncrest. Sam Blumenthal posted the shutout with 10 saves. The junior goalie hasn't allowed a goal all season.

Brothers Justin and Jansen Aoyama scored once for the Rams.

Senior Chris Martin assisted on a pair of goals and scored one of his own to lift Radnor over visiting Garnet Valley, 3-0.

Ryan Cutler and Nico Pelaez added goals.

Ches-Mont. Matt Cioeta scored twice and Connor Hudecheck added a goal as Sun Valley did all its scoring in the second half to drop visiting Octorara, 3-0.

Andrew McGinley scored a pair of goals and Oxford scored three times in the second half to race past visiting Bishop Shanahan, 5-1.

Central. Alex Mack and Bobby Kane scored goals, and Sebastian Stelmach stopped four shots to power Haverford High to a 2-1 victory over Marple Newtown.

Tri-County. T.J. Seltner scored with 15 minutes, 30 seconds left in the second half from 30 yards on the left side, and Mercy Vocational downed host Kimberton Waldorf, 2-1.

The sophomore midfielder's shot bent into the top right corner of the net. Senior Jim Loftus posted the win with 19 saves, 12 in the second half.

Public. Senior Mustafa Alghazzawi scored a hat trick to lead Frankford past visiting Engineering & Science, 8-1.

Pauhken Khai scored twice in the first half as Southern raced past host University City, 5-0.

Emmanuel Comgbaye scored all three of his goals in the first half as Palumbo turned back visiting Bok, 6-2.

Junior Gjergji Duylgjeri chipped in with four assists.

Franklin Learning Center scored twice in the first 10 minutes before Martin Luther King clawed even to force a 2-2 tie at home. Nachby Sainvilus scored twice for King.

Pioneer. Rushawn Larmond scored four goals as Pottsgrove eased past host Phoenixville, 5-0.

Larmond, a sophomore, scored once on a penalty kick.

Football

Bok scored two touchdowns in the last six minutes to seal its 28-6 win over host West Philadelphia in a Public League Class AAA game.

Larry Pelzer rushed for a pair of touchdowns, including a 10-yarder in the fourth quarter.
