Fri. S.J. football roundup: Pennsauken tops C.H. East

Deyon Edwards took it upon himself to seal Pennsauken's 13-6 win over visiting Cherry Hill East on Friday night in the first home night game in Pennsauken history.

Edwards, a junior quarterback, rushed up the middle for a 5-yard touchdown on a designed sneak with 7 minutes, 45 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The 6-foot, 140-pounder rushed nine times for 44 yards.

He completed 9 of 16 passes for 127 yards, including a 15-yard pass to Isaiah Ingram in the second quarter.

Head coach Ty Maddox said the program decided to rent the portable light structures after other area schools had started playing night games.

"They loved it. Everybody's family came out, and they were really excited to play under the lights at home," said Maddox.

Ingram, a senior defensive end and tight end, led the defense with seven tackles, five assisted tackles, and one sack. Korey Mitchell added seven tackles, two assists, and one pass deflection.

Burlington Township 26, Holy Cross 20 - Burlington Township scored on its first play from scrimmage in overtime to top visiting Holy Cross.

Mike Thomas hauled in the game-winning touchdown on a 25-yard pass from Khalil Trotman.

Holy Cross tied the game in regulation with a three-yard touchdown run by Kenny Long.

Wildwood 42, Riverside 0 - Wesley Hills had his way with the Riverside defense as Wildwood cruised to an easy win. The running back recorded 19 carries for 191 yards and four touchdowns.

He put the Warriors ahead by 16-0 with a 25-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter. Hills then rushed for two touchdowns in the second quarter before adding a 15-yard touchdown in the fourth.

Francis Christian chipped in with a pair of touchdowns and two two-point conversions. He opened the scoring with a 23-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter. In the third quarter, Christian hauled in a 32-yard touchdown.

Triton 14, Cherokee 7 - Triton rallied for a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to turn away visiting Cherokee, 14-7.

Josh Woods scored the game-winning touchdown on a 2-yard rumble. He finished with 132 yards on 28 carries.

Dan Baker tied the game at 7 with an 89-yard touchdown pass from Isaiah Baylor. He also led the Mustangs defense with an interception and fumble recovery.

Chance Negri recorded 11 tackles and one sack.

Gloucester 33, Schalick 13 - Ben Boyer's second-half success helped Gloucester pull away from visiting Schalick.

The junior rushed for touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters as Gloucester ended the game with 33 unanswered points.

Boyer finished with 30 carries and 165 yards. Both of his touchdowns were from 3 yards out.

Larry Spann added 107 yards on six carries, including a 66-yard sprint for a touchdown before halftime. In the fourth, Spann added a 40-yard touchdown, which capped the scoring.

Haddonfield 36, Lindenwold 0 - After a scoreless first quarter, Haddonfield scored a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter en route to an easy win at Lindenwold.

Mike Alberto put the Bulldogs on the board with a 1-yard rumble in the second quarter. After a safety, Mike McLaughlin chipped in with a 32-yard rushing touchdown.

Delran 20, Willingboro 14 - Mark Jukic's fourth-quarter touchdown gave Delran the come-from-behind win over visiting Willingboro.

Jukic rushed for a 4-yard touchdown to take the lead after Delran fell behind by a touchdown at halftime. He finished with 58 yards on 14 carries.

Quarterback Justin McFadden finished with 91 yards on 6-for-11 passing. He gave Delran an early 7-0 lead on a 13-yard touchdown to Khalil Thomas.

Thomas tied the game at 14 in the fourth quarter when he intercepted a Willingboro pass and brought it back 25 yards for a touchdown. He also hauled in five passes for 77 yards.

Sterling 13, Paulsboro 10 - Kahil Howard rumbled for a fourth-quarter touchdown to lift Sterling over visiting Paulsboro.

Howard scored on a 1-yard touchdown after Sterling fell behind by 10-3 at halftime.

Northern Burlington 35, Cinnaminson 14 - Kenyatta Greene recorded 291 all-purpose yards to lead Northern Burlington easily past Cinnaminson. He rushed for 151 yards on 15 carries and scored a pair of one-yard touchdowns.

Paul VI 35, Clearview 6 - Alec Vignola rushed for 167 yards to lift Paul VI at Clearview. He failed to reach the end zone, as Dior Hightower grabbed a pair of goalline touchdowns.

Faheem Boyd added a first-quarter touchdown and rushed for 77 yards on eight carries.
