O'Hara races to Briarwood title

Cardinal O'Hara placed three runners in the top 10 to capture the championship boys' team title on Saturday afternoon at the Briarwood Invitational at Belmont Plateau.

Kevin James was the top Lions finisher, as he navigated the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 4 seconds for fourth place. He was followed a second later by teammate Ernie Pitone and two seconds later by O'Hara's Dan Savage.

Brendan Shearn of North Schuylkill finished in first place with a time of 15:41.40.

In the Division I race, Hatboro-Horsham's Connor Quinn finished in first place with a time of 16:18.30. Alex Brand of Central Bucks East came in second with a 16:31.

Paul VI took the team title with a pair of runners in the top 12.

In the Division II race, Malvern Prep's Billy McDevitt needed a late charge to pull away from his teammate Jaxson Hoey. McDevitt finished in 16:37.80, one second ahead of Hoey.

Penn Charter captured the team title as it finished three runners in the top six. Scot Mason led the way with a fourth-place finish in 17:01.90.

Girls. Kara Steinke used a large margin to cruise to a first-place finish in the championship division. The Methacton junior finished in 18:49.30, nearly a minute faster than Hereford (Md.)'s Meghan Anderson.

Lenape captured the team title, followed by Hereford and third-place Central Bucks East.

In the Division I race, Alyssa Rudawsky of Garnet Valley topped Central's Lucy Van Kleuned by five seconds to capture first place. Rudawsky, a senior, finished in 19:32.60.

Mount St. Joseph captured the team title by finishing a pair of runners in the top five. Meredith Reiche led the Mount with a fourth-place finish in 20:05.30. Her teammate, Hassiyna Taylor, finished in fifth.

In the Division II race, Archbishop Wood secured the team title with 60 points and five runners in the top 17. Erin Young was the top finisher for Wood at 20:50.

Kelly Hayes of Pearl River captured first place.
