Tues. Pa. boys' and girls' roundup: Hubert coach moves closer to 400th victory

Posted: September 19, 2012

Biff Jones scored two goals Tuesday to lead St. Hubert past host Cardinal O'Hara, 3-1, in a Catholic League girls' soccer game and give Bambies coach Mick McGroarty his 399th career victory.

After a scoreless first half, Jones scored early in the second half before adding a goal in the 78th minute. Kerri Mattock then scored in the 74th minute.

McGroarty will vie for win No. 400 when St. Hubert plays at Archbishop Wood at 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Wood is ranked third in Southeastern Pennsylvania by The Inquirer.

Because of inclement weather, Hubert-O'Hara was the only Catholic League girls' soccer game played Tuesday.

Little Flower will host Neumann-Goretti on Wednesday, Conwell-Egan will visit Archbishop Carroll on Sept. 26, and Bonner-Prendergast will play visiting Archbishop Ryan on Oct. 2. Bishop McDevitt and Archbishop Wood did not immediately set a makeup date.
