Philly Jazz Fest

A star lineup kicks off the all-day inaugural Philly Jazz Fest, featuring R&B and jazz favorites Pieces of a Dream, vocalist Denise King and the Denise King Quintet, trumpeter Duane Eubanks, the Swing City Blues Band with Frank Bey, and the dean of the city's tenor sax players, Bootsie Barnes. The festival, starting at 1 p.m. at the Sheraton Downtown ballroom, 17th and Race Streets, is the inspiration of Woody Woodland and Carol Stone, founders of the Cape May Jazz Festival. Truck tour

Bring your family out to see all types of service trucks at Elam United Methodist Church's Touch-a-Truck event. The event, which runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., includes fire trucks, ambulances, vintage trucks, and more. Not to mention food trucks with pizza and ice cream. The church is located at 1073 Smithbridge Rd., Glen Mills. Money raised by the event goes to Save Our Shelters, an initiative by the Community Action Agency of Delaware County to maintain local shelters, and to Elam's Sanctuary Renovation Fund. 42d Annual German-American Steuben Parade and Oktoberfest

Join German-Americans from the area as they celebrate their ethnic heritage this weekend. At noon on Saturday, the 42d Annual German-American Steuben Parade will step off from Welsh Road, honoring the German general, Baron von Steuben, who helped mold the American army at Valley Forge. The march will proceed down Frankford Avenue through Mayfair and will end at St. Vincent Street. Featured ensembles include the Chemnitzer Stadtmusikanten Band, from Germany; Heimatklange Band, from Philadelphia; Father Judge High School Band; and the Liberty Band of Cinnaminson. Walk for recovery

Walk through historic Philadelphia as part of the annual PRO-ACT Recovery Walks to promote awareness of recovery from addiction. Join thousands of individuals walking to celebrate and support their own and others' recoveries, including special guest Ted Williams, the formerly homeless man with the "Golden Voice." The walk covers 13/4 miles. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, and the event closes with a post-walk Stage Program from 10 a.m. until noon. Donations are encouraged.
