The ad aired in Philadelphia and made reference to Kane as prosecutor in a 2007 rape case that Kane's campaign, a prosecutor, and the crime victim's father say Kane had no role in.
Regarding the 2007 attack, the ad says: "A judge rejected a weak plea deal she made because of the brutality of the crime and age of the victim."
The Kane campaign distributed letters from the county's first assistant district attorney, Gene Talerico, and the victim's father saying Kane had no role in the sentencing or plea, and demanding the ad be withdrawn.
"The Republican State Leadership Committee should withdraw this advertisement immediately and issue an apology to Kathleen Kane, the district attorney's office of Lackawanna County and the victim and her family for this false, malicious and unconscionable attack," Talerico wrote in the letter.
The TV ad is part of a seven-figure investment the committee is making in Pennsylvania's race for attorney general, Temple said. Kane's chief opponent in the Nov. 6 election is Republican David Freed, the Cumberland County district attorney.
