Sat. Pa. boys' and girls' roundup: Another shutout for C.B. East

Posted: September 23, 2012

The way Jacob Nesteruk and the Central Bucks East defense are playing these days, one goal is usually enough.

That proved true again Saturday as Nesteruk recorded his third straight shutout in a 1-0 victory at Pennridge in a Suburban One Continental boys' soccer game.

The Patriots outshot Pennridge, 18-4, but couldn't find the net until 16 minutes into the second half. That's when Nick Kane headed in a cross from Evan Vare for the lone goal.

Central Bucks East has allowed three goals in six league games.

Nonleague. Shipley freshman Michael Burns picked a perfect time for his first career goal. His strike 10 minutes into the second half held up for a 1-0 win at Upper Merion. Nico Rubino's chip over the top set up the goal.

Sam Alfonsi pounced on a rebound and buried the overtime game-winner in Unionville's 1-0 victory against visiting Daniel Boone.

Three Tommy Higgins goals were all Springside Chestnut Hill needed in a 3-0 win over visiting Archbishop Ryan.

Behind Brett Campbell's three goals, Haverford School beat visiting Gilman School (Md.), 3-0.

Colton Habecker turned a breakaway into the game-winning goal for Hill School in a 1-0 victory over visiting Episcopal Academy. He finished a cross into the box in the 52d minute.

Central League. Led by Chris Martin's hat trick, visiting Radnor defeated Ridley, 4-0.

Penncrest played to a 1-1 tie at Springfield (Delco). Justin Donnelly scored for Springfield, and Austin Trusty had Penncrest's goal.

Sean Tait scored twice as Conestoga blanked visiting Harriton, 5-0.

Girls' Soccer

Penncrest's Brittany Kashner made 11 saves to help Lauren Huggins' second-half goal stand up in a 1-0 win at Springfield (Delco).

After scoring five goals in Strath Haven's 8-0 rout of visiting Marple Newtown, Morgan Glassford has 11 goals in seven games this season.

Nonleague. Ashley Swaim's goal in the 62d minute boosted William Tennent to a 2-1 victory over visiting Perkiomen Valley.

Episcopal Academy's Taylor Long made eight saves for her first career shutout in a 2-0 victory at Hill School.

Field Hockey

Senior captain Taylor Schwoyer scored two unassisted goals to give host Christopher Dock a 2-0 win over Sacred Heart in a nonleague contest.

Gianna Pileggi made six saves for Episcopal Academy and Lexi Curry and Margaux Paolino both scored in a 2-0 win at Hill School.

Catholic Academies. Amelia Iacobucci, Katie Mooney, and Megan Parsons scored for Villa Maria, and Erika Miller made 11 saves in a 3-1 triumph over visiting Merion Mercy.
