Posted: September 26, 2012

Camden will face national power St. Anthony of Jersey City in the Boardwalk Basketball Classic on Dec. 30 at the Convention Center in Wildwood.

St. Anthony, which has won 65 games in a row in fashioning consecutive undefeated seasons, will play in the 15-year-old tournament for the first time and face Camden in a bracket that will be named for Friars coach Bob Hurley.

"It's great exposure for the squad, for the program," Camden coach Cetshwayo Byrd said Tuesday. "It's great for our kids."

The other two teams in the bracket are expected to be Math, Civics & Sciences of Philadelphia and Prime Prep Academy of Dallas.

Hurley is a National Basketball Hall of Fame coach who has won 1,049 games. His St. Anthony teams have won 12 Tournament of Champions titles.

St. Anthony's appearance in the tournament that annually features more than 80 boys' and girls' teams will be announced at a news conference Friday at the convention center in Wildwood.

Camden is scheduled to return three starters from last season's South Jersey Group 3 champions: 6-foot-8 senior forward Amir Maddred, junior guard Tavaris Headen, and sophomore guard Rasool Hinson.
