A 17-year-old boy is recovering from a gunshot wound to his right foot after a shooting outside a North Philadelphia recreation center Thursday night, police said.

Shots were fired around 7:30 p.m. outside the Athletic Recreation Center.

The teen was taken by private auto to his grandmother's house, on Harper Street near 20th, before being transported to Hahnemann University Hospital, police said. The victim was listed in stable condition as of 9 p.m. Police were unsure of the shooter's motive, and a description of the suspect was not immediately available.

Man, 22, critically wounded

* Mascher Street near Venango

A man was shot in the head and critically wounded in a daylight attack Thursday on a North Philadelphia street, police said.

Police were looking for two men who fled in a black Dodge Charger.

The 22-year-old man was shot in the back of the head about 10:45 a.m., police said.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital in extremely critical condition.

W. Phila. homicide victims identified

* Millick Street near Wharton

Police Thursday released the names of two men killed in separate shootings in West Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Maurice Thomas, 28, was shot once in the torso while resisting a robbery about 9:40 p.m. on Millick Street near Wharton.

The victim, who lives on the block, was pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University Pennsylvania at 10:27 p.m. Police were looking for the gunman.

Stephen Casey, 23, was shot nine times and killed during a gunbattle between the occupants of two cars on Cobbs Creek Parkway near Catharine Street around 3 p.m.

A 21-year-old man also was shot in the arm during the exchange of fire, and police believe that both victims had fired at each other.

Casey lived on Spring Street near 54th, in West Philadelphia.

Police found 9 mm and .45-caliber shell casings at the scene and recovered a .45-caliber handgun in the car in which Casey was riding.
