Thurs. Pa. girls' roundup: Villa Joseph Marie holds on

Villa Joseph Marie held off a furious late rally by Gwynedd-Mercy and won, 3-2, on the road Thursday in Catholic Academies girls' soccer.

The Jems took a 3-0 lead before Meredith D'Angelo scored on two penalty kicks in the last five minutes.

It was the Jems' eighth straight win.

Bicentennial. Delco Christian junior goalkeeper Jamie Barr earned her third straight shutout, a 4-0 win over Calvary Christian. Sophomore Julia Kyne scored in the third minute to give Delco the lead, and freshman Kailey Meef added three assists in the second half.

Ches-Mont. Caitie Green scored two goals and Elaine Byerley and Molly Shea added one apiece in Bishop Shanahan's 4-1 home victory over West Chester East.

Field Hockey

Strath Haven goalie Caroline Boyd, a sophomore, stopped three shots and earned her sixth shutout, a 2-0 win at Upper Darby in Central League action.

Junior Kristen Baschoff scored two goals for the Panthers, both assisted by senior Jessica Borbee. With the lead still at one at halftime, Baschoff scored to add some breathing room five minutes into the second half.

Ches-Mont. Nina Mazzerilli and Lindsay Orton scored in the first five minutes of the second half to lift West Chester East to a 2-0 victory at Bishop Shanahan.

Senior goalkeeper Lisa Imburgia stopped all five shots she faced for her fourth shutout.

Inter-Ac. Germantown Academy rolled past Baldwin, 8-0. Katie Westrum scored three times, and Allie Carrigan and Catherine Perlmutter each recorded two goals and two assists. The Patriots led by 6-0 at halftime.
