Fri. S.J. boys' and girls' roundup: Nickle rescues Pennsville

Abigail Nickle scored two late goals Friday to give Pennsville a 3-2 victory over Pitman in nonleague girls' soccer.

Nickle scored with six seconds remaining to force the game to overtime, and then scored the deciding goal in extra time.

Goaltender Dani Cornman recorded six saves for Pennsville in the victory.

Rebecca Williams scored both Pitman goals.

In other nonleague action:

Jordyn Martini scored with five minutes left in regulation as Egg Harbor Township defeated Hammonton, 2-1, handing Hammonton its first loss. Carly Friedman made 10 saves for Egg Harbor Township (3-2). Brigette Alessandrini made 10 saves for Hammonton (9-1).

Six Haddonfield players scored goals as the Bulldogs shut out Lindenwold, 6-0. Olivia Blaber had two assists for the Bulldogs, and Taylor Sehdev recorded one save for the shutout. Shola Karimu and Makenzie Garlock combined for 18 saves for Lindenwold.

Kelly O'Kane scored two goals in the span of four minutes as Woodstown topped GCIT, 4-1. Sarah McGoldrick and Tori Smick added the other two goals for the Wolverines.

Colonial Conference. Cassidy McSorely scored early in overtime to hand Haddon Township a 2-1 win over Collingswood. Amber Stefano scored for Collingswood to tie the game, 1-1, in the second half.

Sam Budd and Megan Sullivan each scored twice as West Deptford downed Audubon, 4-1. Jordan Stanek had two assists for the Eagles, and Budd added an assist to her pair of goals. Audubon's lone goal was scored by Megan Schaefer.

Cape-Atlantic. Abby Carey scored early in overtime, giving Mainland a 2-1 victory over Vineland. Carey took the ball from a Vineland defender, turned, and scored from about 20 yards. Shea Scannell had the other goal for Mainland.

Boys' Soccer

Eric Cathcart's first varsity goal proved to be the difference as Haddon Heights topped Woodbury, 1-0, in a Colonial Conference matchup.

Cathcart, a sophomore, scored off a rebound of teammate James Hicks' shot in the 44th minute. Senior John Weaver made three saves to record his fourth shutout in a row.

In another Colonial match, Johnny Alemi scored twice as Haddonfield defeated Lindenwold, 4-0. Brendan Werner and Johnny Alemi contributed the other two goals.

Burlington Freedom. Junior Nick Stovall-Kurtz scored a goal in each half as Florence cruised to a 4-0 victory over Westampton Tech. Kellen Groover made six saves for Florence in the shutout.

Nonleague. Palmyra had five goal scorers in a 5-0 shutout of Medford Tech. Ricardo Margolles and Pat Franecki each had a goal and an assist. James Brett made three saves to record his third shutout of the season.

Akwasi Adu and Bryan Torres each scored twice as Atlantic City topped Bridgeton, 6-3. Alex Camara added a goal and an assist, and Juan Elizalde recorded eight saves for Atlantic City. Eduardo Ruebles saved 12 of the 18 shots he faced for Bridgeton.

Field Hockey

Florence struck for seven goals in the first half, Kaitlyn Krywy and Lexi Smith recorded hat tricks, and the Flashes defeated Burlington City, 8-1, in a Burlington County League Freedom Division game.

Florence's other two goals were scored by Nicole Myslinski and Devin Vogel.

Burlington City goaltender Cara Martin stopped 21 of the 29 shots she faced.

Burlington Patriot. New Egypt scored four unanswered goals in topping Cinnaminson, 4-1.

Cinnaminson led, 1-0, before New Egypt scored twice in each half to secure the victory.

Alexa Magnotta scored twice for New Egypt.

Friends Schools. Nicole Hovatter made 10 saves as Moorestown Friends shut out Friends Select, 2-0. Both of Moorestown Friends' goals came in the first half, from Rylee Fennell and Gina Tamburri.

Goaltender Shayna Kleinman-Phillips recorded 11 saves for Friends Select.

Tri-County Royal. Alexis Brown tallied a goal and added an assist as Delsea defeated Cumberland, 2-0. Olivia Hennelly also scored for Delsea.

Softball

Haddon Heights coach Michelle Schlichtig has resigned to become an assistant softball coach at the University of Pennsylvania, the high school announced.

Schlichtig, a former standout player, coached at Haddon Heights for four seasons and won two consecutive Colonial Conference championships and a South Jersey Group 2 title last spring.
