Sat. Pa. football roundup: GA rallies but falls short

Germantown Academy, which trailed by as many as 20 in the second quarter, scored 27 straight points to take a fourth-quarter lead before ultimately falling at home Saturday, 42-41, to North Jersey's Blair Academy in a nonleague football game.

Hayes Nolte led the comeback charge and completed 13 of his 20 passes for 321 yards and six touchdowns, without an interception. He also added 44 rushing yards.

Jihaad Pretlow, who has committed to play football at Temple, ran for 225 yards on 21 carries and converted the game-winning two-point conversion for Blair.

In other nonleague action:

Penn Charter 33, Peddie School 8 - Eric Neefe ran for 198 yards and four touchdowns to lead Penn Charter to the road win.

After Peddie School went ahead, 8-6, in the second quarter on Rory Merklinger's 1-yard run, Neefe scored four unanswered touchdowns to put Penn Charter in front and turn the game into a rout.

Springside Chestnut Hill 9, Hill School 3 - Springside Chestnut Hill posted nine points in the second quarter and held on for the home win.

Defensive tackle Kyle Lawlor blocked a punt out of the back of the end zone for a safety to put the Blue Devils ahead, 2-0, and Mike Hayes completed a 5-yard touchdown pass to Bob Keyes to add to their lead.

Hayes finished 7-for-14 passing for 160 yards. Keyes caught four passes for 106 yards.

Haverford School 21, Penn Wood 5 - Haverford School never trailed in its home win against Penn Wood.

Christian Giubilato ran for 89 yards and a score.

Morrisville 31, Academy of the New Church 13 - Zjamir Ibezim ran for two touchdowns and returned an interception for a third to lead Morrisville to the win at ANC.

Catholic League AAAA

The Inquirer's top-ranked team in Southeastern Pennsylvania, La Salle, easily dropped Archbishop Ryan, 31-0, at Washington.

Chris Kane threw for 293 yards and a touchdown, and Jimmy Herron and Jared Herrman each scored a pair of touchdowns.

Catholic League AA

Shaquille James scored three touchdowns to lead West Catholic to a 47-14 win over Bishop McDevitt at Cheltenham. James opened the scoring with a 2-yard run and caught touchdowns of 7 and 48 yards to help the Burrs build a 47-7 lead after three quarters.

Pioneer Athletic

Wyatt Scott ran for 195 yards, including a 62-yard touchdown, as Owen J. Roberts won at Pope John Paul II, 20-12.

Bicentennial

Sam Tascone did all he could to help Delco Christian hold to its 14-6 win over visiting Jenkintown.

After coming up with an interception with 1 minute, 51 seconds remaining, Tascone made a game-saving tackle on the Knights' 4-yard line to secure the lead.

Public Class AAA

After his Overbrook team fell behind, 8-0, in the first quarter, Marice Tillman led a defensive effort that included three shutout quarters and a fumble-return touchdown in a 12-8 win against Mastery Charter at Simon Gratz.

Tillman, who ran for 83 yards on 17 carries on offense, recovered a fumble and took it 38 yards, untouched, for the go-ahead touchdown in the second quarter.
