A 37-year-old Paulsboro man died in the back of a Haddon Township police cruiser Saturday after allegedly struggling with officers while being taken into custody, authorities said today.

Shron Norman passed out in the rear of the vehicle and "died despite police efforts to perform CPR," the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and Haddon Township police said.

Norman was pronounced dead at Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden.

An autopsy yesterday revealed no evidence of trauma to Norman's body. The medical examiner is awaiting results of a toxicology report to help determine a cause of death, authorities said.

Norman was arrested after staff at Crown Fried Chicken on Mount Ephraim Avenue in Haddon Township called police around 1:30 a.m. Saturday to report a man threatening customers and damaging store property, authorities said.

Police struggled with Norman while taking him into custody and one officer sustained minor injuries.

The prosecutor's office plans to investigate the interaction between police and Norman. Anyone who witnessed the event has been asked to contact Lance Saunders, of the prosecutor's office, at 856-225-8513.
