THE SOUL signed coach Clint Dolezel to a 2-year contract. Dolezel took over on an interim basis after Doug Plank surprisingly left after the season to take the Orlando job.
Dolezel was the Soul's assistant head coach last season and was in charge of the offense, which led the league with 68.2 points per game. The Soul rebounded from a 6-10 season in 2011 to advance to the AFL championship before losing badly to Arizona.
Keeping Dolezel will give the Soul an edge in retaining key players such as quarterback Dan Raudabaugh, wide receiver Tiger Jones and running back Derrick Ross. All players are free agents, but teams can begin re-signing their own players on Oct. 15. Open free agency begins Oct. 29.
