Thurs. S.J. boys' roundup: Middle Twp. outlasts Lower Cape May

A Cape-Atlantic League defensive duel ended in the second overtime as host Middle Township took down Lower Cape May, 1-0, in a boys' soccer match on Thursday afternoon.

Senior Jacob Cowen intercepted a pass in the middle of the box and put a shot in the bottom left corner of the net just three minutes into the overtime period.

Steve Hand proved strong in goal, making four saves for the Panthers.

It was his sixth shutout of the season.

Burlington County. Ali Cakir and Faruk Ozedemir each had two goals to lead Burlington City to a 6-3 win at Medford Tech. Marquise Wade recorded a hat trick for the Jaguars.

Trenton Catholic did all of its scoring in the first half and eased past host Willingboro, 8-2. Fomba Tulay found the net twice and helped with an assist. Lendee Henry added two goals for the Iron Mikes.

Holy Cross senior Jon Mackie scored his first career hat trick in a 5-1 home win over Maple Shade. Donald Barnes also had a goal and added two assists.

Cinnaminson jumped out to an early lead but was run over by visiting Delran the rest of the game as the Bears won, 4-1. Bernardo Miranda and Tom Taylor had two goals each.

Host New Egypt raced past Florence, 7-0, behind two goals each from Kenny Johnston and Travis Ward. Nick Sample added a goal and three assists, and goalkeeper Ryan Grasso made four stops.

Northern Burlington's Zach Nixon made seven saves to lead the Greyhounds to a 2-0 home win over Burlington Township. Kyle Adams and Austin Kubin each scored in the second half.

Colonial. Junior Kevin Nelan converted a penalty kick in the 59th minute for what proved to be the game-winner as Haddon Heights clung to a 1-0 victory at Haddonfield.

Jon Weaver made eight stops to earn the shutout.

Senior Anthony Colofranson carried Gateway to a 6-2 victory over visiting Woodbury. Colofranson scored four goals in the win. Mike Valleri also scored and added an assist.

With the game scoreless at the break, Haddon Township surged past host Paulsboro, 4-0, as four players - Chris Kobsar, Mike McCutcheon, Andy Rust, and John Schwab - found the net in the second half.

Audubon's Bob Tegan finished a breakaway in the final minutes to lift Audubon to a 2-1 home win over Lindenwold. Zach Thomas scored in the first half for the Green Wave.

Tri-County. Pitman struck after the break to take a 6-1 home win over visiting Woodbury. The game was tied, 1-1, at the half. Ryan Fluck scored first, then added another goal and an assist in the second half for the Panthers.

Spencer Schaefer found the net in the second half to lift Woodstown to a 2-1 win at Deptford.
