Website will aid Philly school search

PHILADELPHIA Schools Partnership is set to launch GreatPhillySchools.org, a website and print guide with objective data about (almost) every school in Philadelphia - district, charter, parochial and private, said Mark Gleason, PSP's executive director.

Schools will be given ratings based on public data, including test results, college-preparedness and safety, and visitors can go to the site to research and compare their options, Gleason said.

The database won't be live until next Monday, but those

interested can sign up for email updates at GreatPhillySchools.org.

Gleason said that the site would include "a lot of content to help parents understand what makes a great school."

"The site will suggest questions for teachers and principals when looking at their own school, which may be strong in certain areas and not so strong in others," he said. "That might cause them to speak up about what they want to see improve at their school.

"There will also be lots of narrative content for more than 400 schools. Articles that offer advice to parents on how to change schools and what different types of schools there are."
