A girl, 15, was in critical condition Monday night after being shot in the face in the city's Point Breeze section, police said.

About 5, medics were called to an apartment on the 1600 block of South 19th Street to treat the girl, who was not initially reported as a shooting victim, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

She was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where it was discovered she had been shot in the face, Small said.

Some witnesses told police that the shooting occurred outside, but there was evidence of a crime only inside the apartment, where the girl lives, Small said.

"It's a mystery right now," he said.

There were people in the apartment when the girl was shot, including her mother, and all were being questioned, Small said.

"We'll get at the truth," he said.
