Two people were hospitalized after a fire in a West Philadelphia public housing complex Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said.

The blaze was reported at the Westpark Apartments, on Busti Street near Holden, around 1:28 p.m. and was declared under control just before 2 p.m., authorities said.

Medics took a child to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and a second unidentified victim to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Information on the victims' ages, genders and conditions was not immediately available.

Officials from the Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania said at least two families would likely need assistance following the fire, and added that the number of displaced residents was unclear Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters remained on the scene around 2:30 p.m. and officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
