Tues. Pa. boys' roundup: Radnor edges Marple Newtown

All Dalton Morris needed to do was carry the ball into the net, as Radnor used his first-half goal to turn back visiting Marple Newtown, 1-0, Tuesday in a Central League boys' soccer match.

As the ball rolled toward the right end line, Nico Pelaez delivered a one-touch cross to the far post, and Morris ran through the ball for the goal. Wesley Dixon posted the shutout with five saves.

Also in the Central League:

Junior David Baer scored in the 70th minute, and Lower Merion inched past Ridley, 1-0. Baer volleyed in a free-kick pass from Matt Lindheim. Connor Yu made three saves for his seventh shutout of the season.

Kevin Lawson converted a penalty kick with just four minutes left to lift Harriton over host Strath Haven, 1-0. Sam Blumenthal turned away 16 shots for the shutout.

Freshman Kelvin Paye one-timed a cross five minutes into overtime as Upper Darby rallied past visiting Garnet Valley, 2-1. Foray Toronka, a Royals senior, scored in the 20th minute.

T-Ben Donnie and Andrew Gonzalez each had two goals as Conestoga rolled past visiting Penncrest, 7-1. Both Pioneers scored once in each half.

Catholic. In his third game since returning from a knee injury, Brett Beaumont scored a second-half goal to lead Archbishop Ryan past visiting Lansdale Catholic, 2-0.

A senior striker, Beaumont was named to the all-Catholic League team last season. He scored his goal on a breakaway from a crafty through-ball.

Also in the Catholic League:

Mark Grasela finished an overtime penalty kick to lead La Salle over host Archbishop Carroll, 1-0. The penalty was called four minutes into the first half after Matt Lucas was taken down in the box. Nick Higgins posted his third shutout with five saves.

Joe Steward scored once and added an assist to lead Roman Catholic to a 2-0 win over Archbishop Wood at Lighthouse. Dylan Rutledge posted the shutout with five saves, and Stefano Aiello-Pang added another goal. Coach Ray DeStephanis registered his first win over his alma mater.

Sophomore Michael Carr and senior Colin McGlynn recorded a goal and one assist apiece to lead St. Joseph's Prep over visiting Conwell-Egan, 3-1. Bill Savage added a goal, and Ryan Sandell had two saves. Colin Kudler scored Conwell-Egan's goal.

Inter-Ac. Brett Campbell scored a hat trick and Haverford School rolled to a 6-1 win over host Episcopal Academy. In the 49th minute, Campbell converted a penalty kick. He also scored in the ninth and 44th minutes. Connor Bradley, a freshman, recorded four assists.

Andrew Cirino scored twice in just 35 seconds in leading Malvern Prep to a 2-1 win over visiting Springside Chestnut Hill. A.J. Traynor and Nick Gabriele added assists for the Friars. Connor McNeill posted the win with four saves.

Ches-Mont. Ethan Fish collected a goal and an assist as Unionville topped visiting Coatesville, 2-0. Sean Faux added a goal, and Luis Segura earned the shutout with eight saves.

Cross-Country

Sammy Aziz set a course record as he led Germantown Friends to the Friends Schools League team title at George School. Aziz finished in 15 minutes, 52.1 seconds - seven seconds faster than the previous mark. Teammate Lyle Wistar finished second in 16:56.3.
