Three Philadelphia men were among a gang of seven charged today with an attempt to transport heroin hidden inside fruit and vegetable cans.

Couriers brought than 7.5 kilograms of the narcotic, concealed in a dozen sealed cans sporting Mexican food labels, from Texas to Philadelphia, said U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger.

Three of the defendants allegedly were driving the drugs from San Antonio to the Oxford Circle section of the city when federal agents seized the shipment on Sept. 18 in Nashville.

Also charged were Jose Estrada, 65, of Von Ormy, Texas; and Gary Diaz, 28, San Juanita Diaz, 28, and Monica Laque, 26, all of San Antonio, Texas.
