Violence continues in Camden with two more killings

Posted: October 18, 2012

Two men were killed in separate incidents in Camden on Tuesday, pushing the city's homicide tally for the year to 53.

That number is only six deaths shy of breaking a 1995 record of 58 homicides.

In the first incident, Jamila Thomas, 35, of Camden, allegedly fatally stabbed her former partner, Dujuan McCoy, 41, around 1:30 a.m.

The stabbing stemmed from an argument between the two at the Northgate Apartments in North Camden, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and city police.

Thomas was charged with manslaughter and hindering police in connection with McCoy's death. Authorities said a neighbor had called police.

In the second killing, Michael Haller, 40, of Riverside, was found shot multiple times in a grassy area near the 600 block of Elm Street. Authorities responded to the scene and found him dead around 9:12 p.m.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Lance Saunders, an investigator with the prosecutor's office, at 856-225-8513; or, Camden Det. Cheryl Campbell at 856-757-7420.
