Phil's Picks, Week 7

Lots of folks on hot streaks like to let it roll in Atlantic City.

St. Joseph, the No. 1 team in The Inquirer's South Jersey rankings, will take a 23-game winning streak into Friday night's showdown with No. 6 Atlantic City.

The Wildcats' winning streak is the 11th longest in South Jersey history.

Here's a closer look at some key games this weekend.

(Last weekend: 7-3. Year to date: 40-20.)

Friday, 7 p.m.

No. 1 St. Joseph (5-0) at No. 6 Atlantic City (4-1). Coming off a bye, the Wildcats will follow quarterback Anthony Giagunto and running back Miles Pease.

Pick: St. Joseph, 27-13.

Cherokee (2-3) at Eastern (4-2). Junior T.J. Gardner is coming off a 196-yard rushing game for the Vikings.

Pick: Eastern, 24-20.

Highland (4-2) at Glassboro (4-1). The Bulldogs' Corey Clement is chasing the South Jersey record for career rushing yards.

Pick: Glassboro, 33-19.

Paul VI (4-1) at No. 3 Timber Creek (4-2). These WJFL Constitution teams are fierce rivals with lots of players who were together in youth football.

Pick: Timber Creek, 20-14.

Egg Harbor Township (2-3) at No. 9 Millville (3-2). It's going to be tough to make the South Jersey Group 5 tournament with three losses.

Pick: Egg Harbor Twp., 23-20.

St. Augustine (5-0) at Buena (3-3). The Hermits want to get to 6-0 in advance of an Oct. 27 visit to St. Joseph.

Pick: St. Augustine, 33-13.

Wildwood (4-2) at Gloucester (4-1). The South Jersey Group 1 playoff berth could be on the line in this clash of teams with top rushers in Wildwood's Wesley Hills and the Lions' Ben Boyer.

Pick: Gloucester, 32-27.

Saturday, 10:30 a.m.

Haddon Heights (3-2) at Haddon Township (3-2). Haddon Heights' potent passing game, led by quarterback Dante Pinckney and wide receiver Kashif Miller, will present a major challenge for the Hawks' defense.

Pick: Haddon Heights, 34-13.

Saturday, noon

Kingsway (3-2) at Pennsauken (2-3). Part of the South Jersey Group 4 field likely will be determined by this clash, which features top rushers in Kingsway junior Ray Lawry and Pennsauken senior Marlin Finley.

Pick: Kingsway, 19-18.

Saturday, 4 p.m.

Cherry Hill East (3-3) at Washington Township (4-1). Running back Daishi Goto leads the red-hot Cougars against quarterback Tom Hildebrand and Washington Twp. in a game with major South Jersey Group 5 playoff implications.

Pick: Washington Twp., 20-14.
