An Audubon woman has been arrested and charged with looting $9,400 from the account of a South Jersey competitive cheerleading squad to send money to a man she met at an online dating site, police said.

"She got scammed," Audubon Police Detective Tim Stillman said of Susan Loberto, who, until her arrest, had been treasurer of the Oaklyn Cats Cheerleading Club.

Police said Loberto, 50, became involved with a man who claimed to be from Pennsylvania she met at Chemistry.com.

The man told Loberto that he was on a construction project in Africa and that he was having problems accessing his bank account.

Officials said Loberto cashed six checks totaling $9,400 from the Cats' account and used the money to purchase Money Grams that were sent to an unidentified man in Ghana.

Loberto admitted forging a second signature on the six checks, authorities said.

The Oaklyn Cats is a competition cheerleading team for middle school-aged children. Its members come from Oaklyn, Audubon and Mount Ephraim.

Audubon and Mount Ephraim police started the investigation on Monday and arrested Loberto the next day on check fraud charges, officials said.
