W.C. Rustin boys, Strath Haven girls are top seeds in District 1 soccer

Posted: October 22, 2012

Odds are the District 1 AAA soccer championship will go through the Suburban One League on both the boys' and girls' sides again this season. Eleven Suburban One teams made the postseason tournament on the boys' side, while 12 Suburban One girls teams made the cut.

That includes the 2011 champions, Conestoga and Pennridge, who earned first-round byes in the boys' and girls' tournaments, respectively.

First seed West Chester Rustin can only meet up with second-seeded Great Valley in the boys' district final. The two Ches-Mont League teams battled it out earlier in the year in a one-goal game that went to Rustin. Central Bucks South is another team to watch.

Pennridge's girls made it all the way to Hershey last season before losing in the state final. This year they'll have to get through undefeated Strath Haven, the No. 1 seed. An exciting matchup could be a quarterfinal game between Conestoga and Pennridge. And no one should count out a high-scoring Neshaminy squad that has not lost since Aug. 31.

In Class AA girls' action, the team to beat is Villa Joseph Marie, which went undefeated in the Catholic Academies league and won 14 games overall. For the boys, Holy Ghost Prep is favored.

With high seeds in both the girls' and boys' Class A tournaments, Christopher Dock and New Hope-Solebury can make some noise.

Only one team advances from Classes A and AA to the state tournament, while five teams advance from Class AAA.
