Tues. Pa. boys' roundup: Yu twins propel Lower Merion

Lower Merion relied on senior twin brothers to edge Central Bucks West, 2-1, on Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the District 1 Class AAA boys' soccer tournament.

Trevor Yu's unassisted goal with 15 minutes left proved to be the game winner, and Connor Yu posted the shutout with eight saves.

The No. 10 Aces tied the score in the first half on a goal from Eli Cohen. C.B. West, the 23d seed, had jumped out to an early lead on a goal by Cameron Dukes.

North Penn 2, Strath Haven 1 (2 OT) - Matt Robinson caught the goalie off-guard with a left-footed shot to lift No. 7 North Penn over the visiting, 26th-seeded Panthers. Robinson, a senior, was assisted by Sean Gorman.

In the first half, Robinson was assisted by Alex Evans.

Council Rock South 4, West Chester Henderson 0 - Senior midfielder Julian Antal scored twice to help No. 11 C.R. South turn away 22d seed Henderson. Tyler Caffey posted a three-save shutout.

Downingtown West 6, Penn Wood 0 - Brett Coper and Justin Obendorfer scored twice each to help lift the No. 5 Whippets over 28th-seeded Penn Wood. Zack Steffen posted five saves for the win.

Central Bucks East 3, Avon Grove 0 - Ben Marks scored two goals, and eighth-seeded Central Bucks East turned away visiting, No. 25 Avon Grove. Both of Marks' goals were in the second half, including one on a penalty kick. Jacob Nesteruk posted the shutout with six saves.

Wissahickon 1, Springfield (Delco) 0 - Pat Magdalinski scored on an assist from Shane Fallen to help lift No. 9 Wissahickon over the visiting, 24th-seeded Cougars. Neal Guaglianone posted the shutout with three saves.

Pennsbury 2, Upper Darby 1 (OT) - Alex Tennant headed in the game-winner as host No. 15 Pennsbury topped 18th-seeded Upper Darby. Colin Waldner scored a first-half goal for the Falcons, and Stewart Mena scored for Upper Darby.

Neshaminy 1, Unionville 0 - Nick Tucci scored from the left corner with five minutes left to lift No. 6 Neshaminy over 27th-seeded Unionville.

Spring-Ford 2, Upper Dublin 1 - Kole Lyons scored in the first half, and the 17th-seeded Rams held on to top No. 16 Upper Dublin.

Pat Swartz posted 13 saves for the win. Brian Schaefer converted a second-half penalty kick for Upper Dublin.

Catholic League

Jim Smith won a loose ball near midfield and found Brett Beaumont on a through ball for the go-ahead goal as Archbishop Ryan edged visiting Roman Catholic, 1-0, in the quarterfinals.

Beaumont, a senior striker, scored from 20 yards in the 20th minute. Jared Ott posted the shutout for the fourth-seeded Raiders with five saves. Dylan Rutledge had six saves for No. 5 Roman.

Ryan advances to host La Salle at noon Saturday in the semifinals.

La Salle 3, Archbishop Carroll 0 - The top-seeded Explorers needed four saves from senior Nick Higgins to blank visiting, No. 8 Carroll. Senior forward Mark Grasela and junior Matt Lucas each scored once and added an assist.

St. Joseph's Prep 7, Lansdale Catholic 0 - Senior captain Colin McGlynn scored three times and added an assist to propel the No. 2 Hawks past seventh-seeded Lansdale Catholic at Archbishop Ryan. Ryan Sandell had two saves for the shutout.

The Hawks will meet Father Judge on Saturday at Ryan.

Father Judge 2, Archbishop Wood 1 (2 OT) - Joe Hanson ripped a shot from 20 yards to lift host, third-seeded Father Judge over No. 6 Wood. Hanson took a pass from Ryan Nork on the flank before going one-on-one with the Vikings goalkeeper.

Kevin Lockhart tied the game for Judge with just six minutes left in regulation.
