Herr, Basso earn state golf championships

Erica Herr and Cara Basso won state titles by a wide margin Tuesday, the second day of the PIAA individual golf championships at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.

Council Rock North's Herr shot a 4-under-par 68 for a two-day total of 140 and a 7-shot victory in the Class AAA competition. The junior birdied twice on the back nine to seal her second straight state title.

Pennsbury's Jackie Rogowicz finished second, and Mount St. Joseph's Isabella DiLisio finished fourth with a 149.

In Class AA girls, Basso, a sophomore from Villa Maria, shot a par 72 to capture the title by 10 strokes. Basso finished with a two-day score of 150.

Among boys, Wissahickon's Jalen Griffin could not maintain his pace from Monday, as he finished with a 147 score for fifth place in the Class AAA tournament. He had finished Monday's competition with a first-round best of par 71.
